Shout Outs!
1. German and Areli C., students, Rock Ridge Elementary
Are you ready for the best news ever? German and Areli, the siblings who were hit by a car earlier this month, attended the Fall Festival at Rock Ridge Elementary last night! Everyone was so excited to see them, and we are so thankful that they are continuing to make great strides in their recovery. Please continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers and thank you again to everyone who supported this family!

2. Students in Tomekia Brown and Jumela Bullock's fourth-grade classes at Barnes Elementary and Art Teacher Ben Gufford
During the holidays, Bridgestone Americas in Wilson sends holiday cards all over the world. For the past nine years, these cards have been created by our fourth-graders. Bridgestone holds a contest and selects the artwork of two students to use for the cards. This year, both of the winners are from Barnes. It's still a big surprise, but we do know the winners are in Ms. Brown and Ms. Bullock's classes. On Nov. 6, these classes will visit Bridgestone for lunch and a special presentation revealing the winners. Kudos to these students and to Mr. Gufford leading the efforts with support from the classroom teachers. Also special thanks to all the fourth-grade classes districtwide that participated in this contest.

3. Brenda Bynum, Jean Isom, Rose Crowder, Beverly McMillion, Candra Harris, Pamela Boykin and Nancy Beach, teacher assistants, Vick Elementary
The Yearbook Committee at Vick is raising money to help reduce yearbook costs for students. As a part of the fundraiser, they sold 200 Tootsie Roll "Boo Pops" and wanted to thank the teacher assistants for making these special treats. I need one of these in my life immediately!

4. Smokey the Bear and third-graders at Gardners Elementary
The third-graders at Gardners recently enjoyed a visit from Smokey the Bear himself in honor of Fire Prevention Week. The students had the opportunity to learn about the five rules of preventing forest fires and ask the park rangers that accompanied Smokey questions.

5. Richard Stover, Exceptional Children Program Specialist, and Helen Crumbley, trainer for Foundations of Math, WCS
The staff from Forest Hills Middle would like to thank Mr. Stover and Ms. Crumbley for recently leading an awesome Foundations of Math workshop. The session was informative and fun!

6. Students in the Wells Elementary Chorus led by Anthony Thorne
The Wells chorus visited Bridgestone Oct. 15 and gave a performance in honor of the veterans who have served in the military. The students were treated to a great breakfast, and Principal Wendy Sullivan, also our WCS Principal of the Year, spoke to the Bridgestone staff about the importance of education.

7. Hunt High Staff involved in Ronald McDonald House fundraiser
Several staff members at Hunt participated in a Pie-in-the-Face event during the school's Homecoming carnival. Thirteen staff members agreed to be hit with pies to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House in Greenville. Picture attached of Sarah Morris, Betty Greene and Paul Edgerton. I can't even say/read/think the word "pie" without remembering that scene in the movie Michael where Andie MacDowell sings about pie..."Pie, pie, me oh my...I love pie!" Ok everybody on YouTube right now!

8. Superheroes at Fike High
Last Tuesday was Superhero/Villain Day during Homecoming Week at Fike, and staff members donned t-shirts that said "I Teach. What's your Super Power?" They posed for the attached photo at the school's entrance. Special thanks to Kathy Proctor for helping with the design and to Toni Varacchi for arranging for the Fike Booster Club to fund the shirts.

9. Yusra A., fourth-grader, New Hope Elementary
Yusra won first place in the county for the Woodmen of the World poster and essay contest. She won a ribbon and a $150 cash prize for her essay about community service. We are so proud of her! Picture attached.

10. Vernicka Roberts, Human Resource Specialist, Central Office
Remember you have until Halloween to enroll for your State Health Plan benefits https://shp-login.hrintouch.com. Her patience and excellent customer service are much appreciated! If you have additional questions, feel free to email her.
