Shout Outs!
1. BSA Department at BB&T
From Stantonsburg Elementary Media Specialist Susan Strickland: "I would like to thank this department at BB&T for transforming a corner of the media center into a new kid-friendly reading area complete with a new rug, colorful bean bags, a rocking chair, an easel and freshly painted shelves. We love using the corner for Story Time and independent reading time. We are so thankful for these volunteers!"

2. Vernicka Roberts, HR Coordinator for Employee Support & Benefits
From Springfield Principal Pattie Barnes: "I want to thank Ms. Roberts for organizing everything so we can get our flu shots at school. I remember years ago when it was in one location, and we all had to stand in line. It is so convenient now to have it in the conference room where you work. Thanks so much!"

3. Fike High Cheerleaders

At a recent football game, the Fike High cheerleaders invited back the girls who participated in their summer youth camp. Both the jv and varsity squads used this camp as a fundraiser to fund their own camp experience at NC State. The campers had a wonderful time at the game!

4. Barton College Men's Soccer Team and Toisnot Middle's Club Unify

On Oct. 10, the soccer team at Barton hosted an Autism Awareness Benefit in conjunction with its match against King University. The team wore specially designed uniforms that were auctioned off to benefit Toisnot Middle's Club Unify, which raises autism awareness and provides a great deal of service within the Wilson community. Matt Akins, the team's coach, said that they were proud to support Toisnot and play for a bigger purpose.

5. Neil Blackwell, senior, Fike High
Our students are amazing! Neil organized a drive for the Middlesex Baptist Children's Home to collect non-perishable food and personal items. He went well above his goal and collected enough items to fill two trucks with donations!

6. Keith Dublin, band director, Hunt High

Forest Hills Middle would like to thank Mr. Dublin for providing his drumline for the first PBIS Pep Rally and for bringing his entire marching band to Forest Hills to perform their half-time show for our eighth-graders. Both performances were phenomenal and enjoyed by our future Warriors!

7. Jenna Fulford, junior, Fike High
Jenna Fulford passed the Microsoft Office Specialist Word Certification exam with a perfect score of 1000! This is a huge accomplishment. The exam is industry made and used by employers to verify skills needed in the workforce.

8. Wilson Rotary Club

The Wilson Education Partnership would like to thank the Wilson Rotary Club for donating personal dictionaries to every third-grader in Wilson County. The Rotary Club has sponsored this project since 2004 and has donated more than 17,000 dictionaries.

9. Businesses offering deals to WCS employees

Your new educator express cards (e2) are on the way! We are so grateful to the 49 businesses offering us 10 percent off or another deal for a year.

10. Fike High Seniors planning to attend NCSU or UNC

Yesterday was the early action deadline for NC State and UNC. The staff at Fike High is very proud of the 48 seniors who applied to one or both by the midnight deadline. Counselors and students have been working hard to get everything submitted. Fike's three Morehead nominees: Neil Blackwell, Sunny Sandhu and Liz Short, submitted their applications yesterday as well. Fike's Park nominees, Caroline Herring and Neil Blackwell, will be submitting soon.
