Simon Award Rubrics

It's time to nominate WCS employes for 2017 David Simon Excellence in Education Awards! The awards, which debuted in 2010, stand as the highest recognition the school system bestows on employees and recognizes exceptional performance.
The David Simon Excellence in Education Awards are named for the late David Simon, a Fike High School student who battled cancer with perseverance and courage and an uncompromising commitment to his education.  Until the day he died in August 2010, David remained passionate about attending school and maintaining his hard-won standing as an honor student. His goal to be excellent above all else defines the high performance required of those nominated in the award categories.

Award Guidelines

The David Simon Excellence in Education Awards are open to any full-time Wilson County Schools employee. There are four main nomination categories in which employees, parents and students can submit nominations. An elementary and secondary winner will be named in each category. Nominations should be submitted to the Public Relations Department no later than 5 p.m. on Mon., April 24.

To assist with an impartial review, the required nomination narrative must not name the nominee or his/her school or department. In the narrative, therefore, a nominator must use either John Adams or Mary Lincoln as the fictitious name for the nominee. All other biographical information is appropriate.

Winners must be employed by Wilson County Schools on August 28, 2017 with no resignation pending. Retirees who worked at least one semester during 2016-2017 are eligible.

The Wilson County Schools Teacher Advisory Committee will evaluate the nominees and select three finalists in each. The Committee will rate nominees solely on the information submitted in the nomination. Members of the Committee are eligible to be award nominees. The Committee will choose by secret ballot a winner in each category.
