Frequently Asked Questions

What other security measures do we have in place besides the new updates?
Our schools have check-in systems in offices for visitors, radios signaling severe weather, cameras, crossing guards, locked outside doors and Wilson County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officers in the middle and high schools. The Wilson Police Department also has a presence in our schools, with a focus on elementary schools. Wilson County Schools has a close partnership with law enforcement, and officers are often at the schools just to visit. Some schools also have a second set of locked doors at entrances, which force everyone to enter the office first.

How will I know if an emergency has happened at my child’s school?
You will receive an automated phone call with the details of the situation. It is imperative that you wait for this call before going to the school because you may be directed to another location to pick up your child. It is also important for the school to have your correct phone number.

How do I update my contact information?
If your phone number or email address changes, please contact your child’s teacher to make him or her aware of the changes.

Will there be other updates in the future?
Safety and security is an area that will always demand assessment and improvements. We are committed to providing the safest schools possible for our staff and students.
