Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

The North Carolina Standard Professional 2 professional educator’s license must be renewed every five years.  The renewal process ensures that professional educators licensed as school personnel continually update their professional knowledge and technical competency by earning continuing education units (CEUs).

CEUs, or renewal credits, can be earned in the following categories:

  • Academic Area/Content

  • General

  • Leadership

  • Literacy

  • Technology

The NC State Board of Education and the Wilson County Board of Education approved the following requirements to renew the Standard Professional 2 License for educators whose license expires June 30, 2016 or later:

K-8 Licensure Area – 8 CEUs

  • 3 Academic Area/Content

  • 3 Literacy

  • 1 General

  • 1 Technology


All Other Educators – 8 CEUs

  • 3 Academic Area/Content

  • 1 Technology

  • 4 General


To Access “old system” for CEU History (to see credits earned prior to June 30, 2014)

  1. Use Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox from your school site with a WCS issued device.

  2. Copy and paste this link into your browser search window.

  1. When the security warning page loads, select “continue on to website.” (NOTE:  If using Google, select “Advanced” and then select “Proceed to …”)

  1. The CEU history page will then load and you can enter your SS# to access credits earned through June 30, 2014.


To Access “new system” for CEU History (to see credits earned since July 1, 2014)

  1. Log in to NCEES.

  2. Select the “Professional Development” tab.

  3. Scroll down the page until the blue “My Transcript” link is visible on the right side of the screen.

  4. Select “My Transcript”

  5. Registered and completed courses will be listed with each respective amount of credits earned.  The total number of CEUs, tallied by category, will be at the bottom of the report.
