Wilson is located in eastern North Carolina in Wilson County. The county is spread across a total area of 373 sq. miles, and has a population of 81,000 people. Wilson is located 40 miles east of the capital city of Raleigh and is served by the interchange of Interstate 95 and U.S. Route 264


In the early 21st century, Wilson was ranked as 18th in size among North Carolina’s 500-plus municipalities. From 1990 to 2010, the city's population increased by more than 40 percent, primarily due to construction of new subdivisions that attracted many new residents. This was accompanied by new retail and shopping construction, primarily in the northwestern parts of the city. Wilson offers residents and businesses fiber optic community broadband - Greenlight - and is also known for its whirligigsWilson is a diverse community and was once a center of tobacco cultivation. Currently, Wilson is focused on revitalizing its historic downtown and providing innovative spaces for entreprenuers.
