The Superintendent invites nominations for Wilson County Schools Principal of the Year.



A candidate for Wilson County Schools Principal of the Year must be a current principal, and he/she must have served at least two years in that role with our school system.  The principal selected must have at least four years of experience as a building-level administrator (which can include some years as an assistant principal and/or central office administrator). 

Candidates should merit the respect and admiration of students, teachers and other professional co-workers, parents, and patrons.  They should be active not only in their schools, but also in their communities where they distinguish themselves as leaders.  Candidates should demonstrate the ability to improve the achievement of students from various backgrounds and differing capabilities.


Nominations may be submitted by any individual in the school system or the community.  

Letters of nomination should be submitted to the Office of Organizational Development, Wilson County Schools, 117 NE Tarboro Street, Wilson, NC  27893 or via email to  Letters should include a brief description of the candidate’s unique leadership strategies that contribute to school success and student achievement.  Consideration might be given to the nominee’s passion for educating students, collaboration with others, the school as a positive learning environment, instructional leadership skills, demonstration of high expectations, and community engagement.  Letters must be accompanied by the POY Recommendation Form



The Office of Organizational Development (located at Central Office) must receive nominations by 5:00 pm on Tuesday, March 10.  Additional information will then be requested by the principal nominee.  Interviews and school visits will follow and the 2015-2016 Wilson County Principal of the Year will be announced on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at the 2015 David Simon Excellence in Education Awards.
