Jeremy Tucker Named North Central Region Teacher of the Year back button

Jeremy Tucker, our WCS Teacher of the Year, has been named the North Central Region Teacher of the Year! His next step is formal interviews at the state level in the spring where he will compete against eight other regional finalists for the title of North Carolina Teacher of the Year!  We know he has this!

The announcement was made at Hunt High on Tues., Dec. 2 by North Carolina Teacher of the Year James Ford and was kept a secret until then (so hard when the news is so great!). Mr. Tucker thought his chorus was performing for a special guest speaker, all 25 WCS principals and a group of teachers and students. During the first musical selection, a crowd of special guests including Mr. Ford, Gov. and Mrs. Hunt, delegates from NC Department of Public Instruction, Mr. Tucker's family and members of the Wilson County Board of Education and Wilson Education Partnership came down the aisle and were seated. Mr. Tucker's back was turned as he conducted the chorus, and he was surprised when he turned around to see Mr. Ford taking the stage. "We are in the presence of greatness," Mr. Ford said as he congratulated Mr. Tucker on his honor.

"My parents have been trying for 33 years to throw me a surprise party but never succeeded. You got me," Mr. Tucker said. He then asked the students in the audience to give all of the teachers in the theater a round of applause. "The reason we continue to come back every day is because of you." If named the North Carolina Teacher of the Year, Mr. Tucker wants to focus on how teachers are valued and on developing leadership.
