Effective with the 2013-2014 school year, the State Board of Education is required to award North Carolina public schools overall grades of A-F for achievement, growth and performance and required to designate whether a school has met, exceeded, or not met expected growth. WCS has been deemed a Low-Performing District because half of our 26 schools did not meet the criteria for performance and growth. WCS is required by the state to develop an improvement plan that specifically addresses how the district will improve both the school performance grade and school growth score of each low-performing school in the district. The plan also addresses how current district policy should be changed to improve student achievement, specifically focused on improving both the school performance grade and school growth score. The Board of Education approved the plan on Oct. 17, and it will now be reviewed by parents, community members and the State Board.
Please review the Low Performing District Plan. There are also copies in school offices.
Our district is focused on continuous improvement, and we look forward to working with each of you to provide the best education for our children.
