Happy Friday, everyone! Here is the OUR STORY - Shout Outs! newsletter highlighting the great things that happened this week!
Wilson County Schools Home
Learn. Create. Inspire.
WCS now ranks 58th in the state for overall proficiency out of 115 school districts - up one ranking from last year! In 2015-16, our rank was 90th and in 2016-17 our rank increased slightly to 89th. For the last three school years, we've had the highest increase in proficiency OF ANY DISTRICT IN THE STATE!!!!
We are SO GRATEFUL to Wilson County Emergency Management, law enforcement, firefighters, paramedics, city and county crews, NCDOT, the Red Cross, our WCS Maintenance Department, news outlets and countless others who serve us selflessly during emergencies and inclement weather! Shout Out! to Superintendent Dr. Mills who always errs on the side of caution and seeks advisement from weather experts to keep us safe during inclement weather. He is responsible for the safety and the education of more than 11,000 students and 2,000 staff members - so he does not take the decision to close schools lightly.
Based on the latest information from the National Weather Service and Wilson County Emergency Management, schools and offices will be closed Fri., Sept. 6 for all students and staff across the district, including annexes and Central Office.
WCS officials are monitoring the hurricane based on information from the National Weather Service and Wilson County Emergency Management. If there is a change in the school schedule for Thursday, an announcement will be made later today (Wed., Sept. 4).
Today was the grand opening of our NC Pre-K Program housed at Jones ES!
If you receive an automated phone call from your principal in the next few days, make sure to listen to the phone message. Emails are not being sent at this time because of a glitch. We are working with the automated phone call provider to fix the issue as quickly as possible.
We can't wait for the first day of school on Monday! It was wonderful to see students and their families at Open House this week. Shout Out! to school staff for all of their hard work getting ready for the new year - including our bus drivers, maintenance staff and School Nutrition employees!
THANK YOU to every individual, business or entity who made a financial or in-kind donation to WCS Operation Backpack! Your generous contribution enabled us to provide more than 3,000 backpacks to students in need.
Great coverage in The Wilson Times about our commitment to offering more STEM and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, math and arts) options for our students so that they are better prepared for our STEM-centered world.
