2025-2026 Wilson County Schools Teacher of the Year

Wilson Early College Academy (WECA) History Teacher Shannon was named the 2024-2025 Wilson County Schools (WCS) Teacher of the Year!

Ms. Campbell has been teaching for 14 years, with 9 of those years at WECA. The classes she is currently teaching are American History and Advanced Placement (AP) US History. She started her career with Wilson County Schools in 2011 as a Social Studies Teacher at Beddingfield High before coming to WECA in 2016.

Ms. Campbell is an incredible teacher. She has the exceptional ability to connect with students, foster a genuine love of learning, and inspire academic excellence. In just two years of teaching AP History, she achieved a 100% pass rate on the AP exam - an incredible testament to her high standards, innovative instruction, and deep commitment to student success. Beyond the classroom, Ms. Campbell is a collaborative leader whose impact reaches across the district. She co-developed the district’s official lesson plan guide for Economic and Personal Finance and American History, ensuring that students across WCS benefit from high-quality instruction. At WECA, she leads numerous school-wide initiatives, mentors colleagues, and consistently steps up to support students, staff, and the school community. 👏🌟

After being surprised, Ms. Campbell shared with the Wilson Times how much she loves her students and that she was “literally shocked and just so honored.” She fought back tears as she shared with the students, staff, her family and other guests a special message. “My platform and what I want to tell other teachers is to keep CRUSHing it. The C stands for creating lessons and getting students involved; the R is for being resilient and not letting anything set you back; U is to continue to be uplifting to each other; the S is for supporting each other and helping future teachers; and the H is to remain hopeful about education and where it’s going in the world today.” 💯🏆

Special thanks to Vester Auto Group for providing Ms. Campbell the one-year lease of a new Honda Accord, Morkos and Molly Youssef (owners of several local restaurants) for gifting her $1,000 and the Wilson Education Partnership for partnering with WCS on the surprise visit and presenting her with a $1,000 cash prize. WCS also provided a $500 cash prize. Ms. Campbell will now advance to the regional level of the statewide Teacher of the Year competition. She is truly deserving of this honor!
