Dr. Ben Williams, Superintendent

Dr. Ben Williams' tenure as Superintendent of Wilson County Schools began July 1, 2026. The Wilson County Board of Education selected him for the position on March 25, 2026. He previously served as the Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services, a role he held since July 1, 2020. Dr. Williams succeeded Dr. Lane B. Mills, who retired on June 30, 2026, after 10 years of service as superintendent. 

“I am excited for the opportunity to serve the Wilson County Schools staff, students, families and community in this new role. It is an honor to work with such an outstanding team to continue moving our school district forward,” said Dr. Williams.

Prior to beginning his tenure with Wilson County Schools as the Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services, Dr. Williams served as the Interim Superintendent for Johnston County Public Schools. Throughout his 26 years in education, he has also served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal and area assistant superintendent for Johnston County Public Schools. Dr. Williams is also a military veteran. A native of Johnston County, he is a graduate of North Johnston High School and earned an Associate of Applied Science in Law Enforcement Technology from Johnston Community College; a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a teaching certification from North Carolina State University; a Master’s degree in School Administration from North Carolina State University; and a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership from the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

Dr. Williams is a 2022 graduate of the Aspiring Superintendent Program, Cohort VI. The Aspiring Superintendent Program is offered through the NC School Superintendents' Association and the NC Alliance for School Leadership Development. Dr. Williams was recognized with the Dr. Sam Houston, Jr. Leadership Award for Cohort VI. Dr. Williams is a member of the Wilson County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council and an active member in his church. He and his supportive wife, Brandy, have four children - Cassidy Holland and her husband Britt Holland; Jake Williams and his wife Maddie Williams; Hannah Dowling; and Ella Williams. 

Chase Ferrell, Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services

Mr. Ferrell began his career with Wilson County Schools on July 1, 2026. Prior to being named Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services, he was the Safety and Security Officer for Johnston County Public Schools. In that role, he oversaw security of all facilities and implemented districtwide safety initiatives. He has also served as the Auxiliary Services and Safety Officer and Lead Area Operation Director with Johnston County Public Schools. Earlier in his career, he worked as a teacher, assistant principal and principal with Johnston County Public Schools and as a teacher in Durham, NC. He has 25 years of experience in education and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s degree in School Administration from North Carolina State University.

Robin May, Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services

Mrs. Robin May is a long time career educator who has given over 29 years of service and dedication in the field.  She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Masters in Curriculum and School Administration from East Carolina University. Her educational career started in Nash County where she served as a middle school teacher, a middle and high school assistant principal, an elementary and middle school principal, Executive Director for Secondary Schools, and Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services.  Mrs.  May joined Wilson County Schools on July 1, 2017.  After serving as a School Improvement Grant Coach at Barnes Elementary, Mrs. May moved into the Executive Director for Federal Programs position. Mrs. May joined Senior Staff on July 1, 2022 as Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services. 

Mrs. May  is committed to building and supporting administrators’ and teachers’ abilities to meet the needs of all students.  As the Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services, she oversees learning for students in preschool through early college, professional development, special education, English learner programs, parent involvement, social emotional/mental health supports, and more. 

Mrs. May comments, “I am excited to be able to serve with the amazing team of educators in Wilson County.  I believe that building strong, trusting relationships with all stakeholders enables teams to reach the highest levels of success.  I am committed to continuous professional growth opportunities for all staff members and ensuring that our students have strong instruction centered on the NC Standard Course of Study, as well as innovative opportunities to build their critical thinking and collaborative skills to ensure that our students graduate with the skills necessary to pursue their post secondary dreams.”

Mike Zalewski, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources

Mr. Zalewski began his tensure with Wilson County Schools on July 1, 2026. Prior to being named Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, he was the Assistant Superintendent of Operations for Franklin County Schools, where he oversaw human resources, maintenance, transportation, School Nutrition, athletics, discipline and capital projects. He also served as the Chief of Human Resources for four years and the Director of Human Resources for seven years with Franklin County Schools. Earlier in his career, he worked as a teacher, coach and assistant principal for Hoke County Schools. He has 19 years of experience in education and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Childhood Education from Buffalo State College and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University.

Amber Lynch, Director of Public Relations

Ms. Lynch has served as Director of Public Relations for Wilson County Schools since June 2011. She is passionate about sharing success stories and highlighting the outstanding work taking place in schools and departments across the district. Through her work, she strives to keep families, staff, and the community informed, engaged, and connected to the mission of Wilson County Schools.

A proud Wilson native, Ms. Lynch is a graduate of Fike High School’s Class of 1998. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Meredith College in 2002. Before becoming Director of Public Relations, she served as the district’s Public Relations Specialist for five years before succeeding her mentor, Bob Kendall, upon his retirement. She also taught at Fike High School for one year and worked as a reporter for the Wilson Daily Times for several years. Ms. Lynch is the proud mother of two daughters.
