WCS Making Headlines Across the State

WRAL Channel 5 Reporter Mandy Mitchell was at Hearne ES last week to cover the school's Gentlemen's Agreement Program, and she was very impressed by the students. The segment aired April 2. The program targets African American males and surrounds the students with mentors who guide them in becoming men of character. Shout Out! as well to Behavior Intervention Specialist David Applewhite and Gentlemen's Agreement and Equity Coordinator Maurice Barnes for their work with the program.

The Wilson Academy of Applied Technology (WAAT) was featured last week in an article for WRAL TechWire. This publication highlights technology-specific news in the Triangle. The article focused on WAAT's commitment to preparing students to graduate and find careers in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and math) by not only preparing them for the careers but also by connecting students with local companies that will hire them.
