Nominations may be submitted by any individual in the school system or the community. Letters should include a brief description of the candidate’s unique leadership strategies that contribute to school success and student achievement. Consideration might be given to the nominee’s passion for educating students, collaboration with others, the school as a positive learning environment, instructional leadership skills, demonstration of high expectations and community engagement. Letters of Recommendation must be accompanied by the Nomination Cover Sheet, which is attached as a PDF on this page.
Letters of Nomination should be submitted to the Office of Human Resource Services, Wilson County Schools, 117 NE Tarboro St., Wilson, NC 27893 or via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. The Office of Human Resource Services must receive all nominations by 5 pm on Wed., March 13, 2019. The WCS Principal of the Year will be selected this spring, and the winner will be announced at the end of the 2018-2019 school year. The selection process is consistent with the requirements of the NC Wells Fargo Principal of the Year state competition. In accordance with national guidelines, a candidate should be one who merits the respect and admiration of students, teachers, colleagues, and parents. A candidate should demonstrate the ability to improve the achievement of all students from various backgrounds and with differing capabilities. The candidate should also be an active leader in his/her school and community. Local and regional eligibility requirements are as follows:
- Must hold a valid Principal’s License
- Must be a current principal in a North Carolina public school, with two years of experience with Wilson County Schools
- Must have atleast four years of experience as an administrator (years may be a combination of assistant principal, principal, and central office experience)
- Must be employed as a school administrator throughout the POY selection process and be able to serve during the 2019-2020 school year
Nominees should meet all eligibility requirements, should plan to be employed as a principal for the 2019-2020 school year and should have an educational platform to be communicated within the district as requested. It is the expectation that all nominees will fully participate in all activities, including but not limited to the submission of the portfolio, participation in the Principal of the Year interview and site visit, and participation in the Wells Fargo Principal of the Year regional competition.
