EXPLANATION OF CALENDARS

 

Revised 2019-2020 Traditional Calendar

  • Wilson County Schools was closed for students and staff on Fri., Feb. 1, 2020, due to snow and ice. 
  • To allow qualified staff to make up Fri., Feb. 21, 2020, the Administration recommends adding one day to the end of the calendar, June 11, as an optional workday. 
  • The days of March 16-27, 2020, have been changed from instruction to optional teacher workdays to reflect the directives of the Governor's Executive Order, the State Board of Education and NCDPI. 
  • The days of March 30-May 28, 2020, have been designated remote learning days to reflect the directives of the Governor's Executive Order, the State Board of Education and NCDPI. 
  • The last day of the school year has been moved from June 3, 2020, to May 29, 2020.
 

Revised 2019-2020 Early College Calendar

  • Wilson County Schools Early Colleges were closed for students on Thurs., Feb. 20, 2020, due to the threat of snow and ice.
  • Wilson County Schools Early Colleges were closed for students and staff on Fri., Feb. 21, 2020, due to snow and ice.
  • Thurs., Feb. 20, 2020, changed from an instructional day to an optional teacher workday.
  • To allow qualified staff to make up Fri. Feb. 21, 2020, the Administration recommends adding one day to the end of the calendar as an optional workday.  May 26, 2020, will become an optional teacher workday.
  • The days of March 16-27, 2020, have been changed from instructional to optional teacher workdays to reflect the directives of the Governor's Executive Order, the State Board of Education and NCDPI.
  • The days of March 30-May 11, 2020, have been designated remote learning days to reflect the directives of the Governor’s Executive Order, the State Board of Education and NCDPI.
  • The last day of the school year has been moved from May 14, 2020, to May 11, 2020.
 

Revised 2020-2021 Wilson County Schools Traditional Calendar
On May 2, 2020, the COVID-19 Recovery Act (Senate Bill 704/SL 2020-3) changed the calendar requirements for the 2020-2021 school year. The COVID-19 Recovery Act…

  • Mandates that all school districts adopt a 2020-2021 calendar with 190 days of instruction with 185 days or 1,025 hours of instruction that includes five remote instruction days in accordance with the remote instruction plan and an additional five instructional days. 
  • Mandates that all school districts adopt a calendar that meets the following requirements: opening date for students of Aug. 17, 2020; closing date for students no later than June 11, 2021; no remote instruction days scheduled prior to Aug. 24, 2020; and remote instruction days may be schedule for use as teacher workdays.

The Revised 2020-2021 Wilson County Schools Traditional Calendar fulfills these requirements in the following ways: 

  • The calendar has 1,076 hours of instruction
    • 178 full days at 6 hours per day = 1,068 hours
    • 2 early release days at 4 hours per day = 8 hours 
    • 1,068 hours + 8 hours = 1,076 
    • 51 hours more than required 1,025 hours
  • The opening date for students is Aug. 17, 2020. 
  • August 17-21 are the additional 5 instructional days that are satisfied by individually separate and distinct full instructional days, not by hours.  
  • Remote Learning Days are:
    -Fri., Sept. 4
    -Tues., Nov. 3
    -Wed., Nov. 25
    -Fri., Jan. 15
    -Fri., Feb. 12
  • The first remote instructional day, Sept. 4, 2020, has been scheduled after Aug. 24, 2020. 
  • The closing date is June 2, 2021.
 
2020-2021 Wilson County Schools Early College Calendar
The Board had not yet approved a 2020-2021 Early College calendar, so this calendar is not a revision. This calendar is based on the Wilson Community College schedule and also includes days for remote learning.
