School History and Academic Highlights
Wilson Early College Academy was established August 5, 2009 and enrolled 50 students. Today, the school has roughly 270 students attending. WECA is located on the campus of Wilson Community College in Building J. The vision for the school was to create a high school that gave early access to college to students who might not have the opportunity after high school. Our mission is for our students to embody these five characteristics: teamwork, integrity, growth mindset, endurance, and respect as they Unleash the Tiger Within!
WECA has had a history of great academic success. We have been an A school since the state began assigning schools performance grades. During the 2023-2024 school year, we had a cohort graduation rate of 100%. More than 80% of our students graduated with both a high school diploma and an associate's degree. We have exceeded the expected growth on state assessments for the last five years. During the 2022-23 school year, WECA scored in the top 5% of all North Carolina Public Schools in growth on state assessments. WECA offers a rigorous curriculum with built-in support from teachers, counselors, and administration. WECA values high expectations, collaboration, and intervention and promotes student responsibility for learning.
