    What a Wonderful World!

Donna LucasI graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High School (Home of the Gryphons! YEAH!) in 1993. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from North Carolina Central University in 1998. In September 2000, I joined the United States Navy and  I graduated from both boot camp and Information Systems Technician “A” school with honors and raccoon eyes.
From there, I was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan for 4 ½ years.   While in Japan, I graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Master’s degree in Human Relations (The professors were flown overseas so that we could attend classes).  In 2005 I moved to San Diego California where I was stationed on the USS Rushmore. The sea life is absolutely unbelievable!

On Christmas Eve 2009 I deployed with my NAVELSG Forward Kilo Battalion to Kuwait. Our flight crew sang Christmas carols to cheer us along the way.

After returning home in October 2009, I taught a half year of fourth grade and two years of first grade in the Nash-Rocky Mount School System.  I deployed with NATO Forces to ISAF Headquarters in Kabul, Afghanistan in February 2014 where I received a Defense Meritorious Service Medal. I returned home on my birthday in February 2015 with snow on the ground so that was a wonderful present!

Since the library has always been one of my favorite places, I decided to pursue a Master’s degree in Library Science. I went back to school in 2015 and graduated in May of 2017 from North Carolina Central University.

This is my third year at Hearne Elementary and I am very excited about the school year that I am about to have with my students! Let's go Hornets!!!
