    School History


    Dedicated in 2009, we are the newest elementary school in the county. Our first Kindergarten class of students finished their elementary career in 2015. Jones ES opened in August 2009. It was built to house the most recent technologies in each classroom. Each classroom is equipped with a projector, projector screen, Smartboard, document camera, laptop for teacher use, 2 desk top computers, and a laser printer. Our school also has two computer labs, one for K-2 and one for 3-5 use. Each computer lab has 30 desktop computers. In addition, Jones has 4 Ipad carts which hold 30 Ipads each and two mini-laptop carts with 30 laptops each. These carts are available for check out through our media center. August 2017, chrome books were added to classrooms in grades three through five.


    School Community


    John Wesley Jones Elementary School is one of thirteen elementary schools in the Wilson County School District. Our school population is 48% Black, 33% White, 11% Hispanic, 4% multi-ethnic, and 2% Asian. Jones Elementary School is the largest elementary school in Wilson County with approximately 650 students enrolled for the 2017-2018 school year. Our school lies just within the western edge of the city limits of Wilson. Our community is a demographically diverse one with both urban and rural students. We are also socio-economically diverse in that 53.7% of our students receive free or reduced lunch status establishing our school for Title 1 status under the new federal guidelines. Jones Elementary School is located within the city limits of Wilson, North Carolina. Wilson County is located in eastern North Carolina and spread across a total area of 373 sq. miles, the county has a population of more than 78,000.
