Hello!
My name is Daniel Barnes, and I am the principal at Lee Woodard Elementary School. This is my fourth year as principal at Lee Woodard, 9th as a principal, and 16th as an educator. Prior to serving at Lee Woodard, I was principal at B.O. Barnes and Vinson-Bynum elementary schools and assistant principal and teacher at Beddingfield High School. I have been happily married to my wife, Brooke, since 2008, and we have one son, Aiden, in the fourth grade. I am a Hunt High School graduate, and after high school I was a North Carolina Teaching Fellow. I attended East Carolina University, where I earned a bachelor's degree in English, master's degree in English Education, licensure programs for principal and superintendent, and a doctorate in K-12 Educational Leadership. In addition, I have the privilege of serving as the 2023-24 Wilson County Schools Principal of the Year.
We have worked to establish high expectations, evidence-based and rigorous instruction, and accelerated growth through best instructional practices, firm and fair discipline, and standards-aligned teaching and activities. Through this work, our teachers have helped our students grow and learn tremendously. I look forward to helping all of our children "BE ELITE" because our school will
