Advance orders for WAAT yearbooks are now being taken. The cost of a yearbook is $40.00. Students should see Mrs. Crain to purchase a yearbook.

The date of our prom has been set for Friday April 4th. The prom is open to all WAAT sophomore, juniors, seniors, super-seniors, and their approved guests. Tickets for the prom are now on sale for $30.00 each. Students should see Mrs. Sutton to purchase a ticket.

Finally, progress reports are scheduled to be sent home on Friday of this week. Please take time to review these with your student. If you have questions or concerns, I encourage you to reach out to the teachers.

We hope everyone has had a great break and our students are ready to return to school. The first day of second semester classes for WAAT is Monday.

Throughout the month of January, we will hold several more FAFSA Completion Nights for our graduating students and their parents. If you would like assistance with completing the FAFSA, please complete the form that has been shared through the Class of 2025 Google Classroom.

We continue to encourage our students to check their email accounts and Google Classroom accounts on a regular basis. These continue to be the most effective way for us to communicate information.

Exams for high school courses begin Monday of this week. The exam schedule has been shared with your student.

Monday evening, WAAT will be holding an information meeting for current 8th graders and their parents. If you have friends or family that might be interested in attending WAAT next year, please share this information. The meeting will begin at 6:00 PM in the WAAT gym.

Our freshmen had a chance last week to learn more about the different program pathways Wilson Community College offers. If they have not done so already, Freshmen need to go ahead and complete their pathway commitment form so we can begin registering them in appropriate classes for next year.

The last day to turn in funds for our PTSO’s Krispy Kreme fundraiser is Tuesday. Students should turn their sales sheet and funds to the front office.

WAAT has scheduled our first FAFSA completion night for Tuesday evening at 5:00. If you need assistance in completing a FAFSA, we welcome you to come out. This is intended for students graduating this year.

Our exams begin December 9th. The exam schedule has been shared with students.

This is the last week we will offer Learning Lab for students needing to make up missed time in high school courses.

On Monday of this week, our freshmen will have an opportunity to meet with staff from Wilson Community College to learn more about the programs offered through WCC. This will assist our students in making an informed decision in their college program of study starting next year.

Monday evening at 7:00, we have our WAAT talent show. We invite families to come out and support our students as they share their talents.

I want to thank all who came out this past week for our first International Festival. Our students did a great job in creating their display booths and it seemed everyone had a good time.

Tuesday of this week is an early release date. Students will dismiss at 12:00. There will be no school for students the remainder of the week.

We are quickly approaching the end of the semester. Exams begin December 9th. The exam schedule will be shared with students this week.

WAAT Seniors will participate in the ACT WorkKeys Tuesday. Testing begins at 9:30 AM, so students need to report to school on time.

Tuesday evening at 6:00, WAAT has scheduled a College Foundation of NC meeting. A representative from CFNC will be here to explain options for applying for funding sources to pay for college after WAAT.

Thursday evening, WAAT has scheduled an International Festival, beginning at 6:00. This is an opportunity for students to showcase their cultures and heritage. We welcome all families to come out and join us for this event.

In honor of Veteran's Day, there will be no school Monday at WAAT. If your student is enrolled in a Wilson Community College course, they should have received a communication from their instructor about how to handle assignments for the day.

WAAT has scheduled the photographers from our yearbook provider to come in on Tuesday to take school pictures. These photographs will be used in the WAAT yearbook and parents may also purchase prints. Information about this was sent home this past week.

Our PTSO Krispy Kreme Fundraiser starts Tuesday. Students will be selling gift certificates for a dozen Krisy Kreme doughnuts for $12.00 each. An information sheet about the fundraiser will be sent home Tuesday with your student.

Learning Lab will allow students to make up time for some of the missed days. Students should speak to their teachers to determine the need for Learning Lab.

Our freshmen students have a field trip scheduled on Wednesday. Please be reminded that those attending the trip must be at school by 6:30 AM.

The WAAT / WECA flag football game is scheduled for Friday. Students have been provided with field trip permission forms for this event. If your child has not returned their completed form yet, they need to do so by Tuesday of this week.

Parents, we are asking for your support by having conversations with your students about expectations as it applies to riding in vehicles with other students. We have previously distributed forms to gather information and parental permissions about this subject. We are still observing students riding between the main college campus and WAAT in the vehicles of other students not listed on these forms. We share this because we want you to be aware of it and because we continue to promote the safety of our students above everything else.

We wanted to remind all of our families that our PTSO has secured a “Together In Education” partnership with Harris Teeter. Customers using their VIC card at Harris Teeter can share the account number 7254 to have a percent of your purchased amount credited back to the WAAT PTSO. This applies to purchases made at any Harris Teeter. We ask that you share this information with all friends and families and encourage them to support us through our PTSO. We have also placed this information on our school website under PTSO.

This past Thursday, a form was posted in the WAAT Student Google Classroom. The form provides information on Technology Use, Digital Citizenship, and Publication Waivers. We ask that parents complete this form.

On Monday evening at 6:30, we have a Senior Information Night for this year’s graduates and their parents.

On Tuesday evening at 6:00, we have our next PTSO meeting.

Our students will participate in the district’s Panorama Student Perception Survey on October 14th.

This week, your student will bring home a handout with information on child abuse, neglect, and age-appropriate information on sexual abuse. Sharing this information with our students is a requirement of state law and state BOE policy for all students in grades 6-12. Your student’s teacher will explain the purpose of this handout to students. Additionally, our school counselor is available to answer questions and support your student. Please contact our school should you have questions or need additional information.

I would like to thank our students, parents, and staff for a great opening to the school year.

This week, we will continue to issue devices to students who have paid their Technology fee of $30.00 and submitted the WCS Acceptable Use Agreement.
-
The WCS Technology Department has provided us with information for students, choosing to use their own devices, to access a district WiFi source. That information will be shared with students tomorrow.
-
The WCS Transportation Department continues to refine bus routes to make them more efficient. Thank you for your support as they do this.
-
Again this week, we will begin instruction promptly at 9:30 each day. We will dismiss at 2:30 Monday through Thursday and 12:00 on Friday.

WAAT will hold Schedule Pick-Up for all students in grades 10 - 13 next Tuesday, July 30th. Students will be able to pick up their schedules between 8:30 and 5:00 in the front office of WAAT.

WAAT has also scheduled a Freshman Orientation for our incoming 9th graders next Tuesday, July 30th beginning at 6:00 in the evening. We will meet in the Gym at WAAT. We encourage all freshmen and their parents to attend this meeting. Freshmen will have the opportunity to pay their $30.00 Technology fee and pick up their device at the orientation.

Our Performing Arts Club is hosting an end of year celebration on Tuesday from 4:30 until 7:00. This is an opportunity for interested students to share their artistic talents such as singing, dancing, or playing musical instruments.

WAAT will offer tutoring for Math 1, Math 3, Biology, and English II again this Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 4:15 to 5:15. This is our final week of tutoring before exams begin.

We will be administering EOC Benchmark Assessments this week. The English II benchmark will be administered Monday, the Biology benchmark will be administered Tuesday, and the Math 1 and Math 3 benchmarks will be administered Wednesday. We ask that our students be at school, on time, with your device fully charged.

WAAT will be holding Student and Staff 3 on 3 basketball games Thursday evening from 6:00 - 8:00. We invite our parents to come out to support this friendly competition and cheer on the players. If a parent is interested in participating in one of the games, they should contact Mr. Williams via email.

Weather permitting, we will hold our Final Lap Senior Parade Friday morning in honor of our 2024 graduates.

The 9-week grading period ends Wednesday of this week. Students should verify with their teachers that they have submitted all work so proper credit can be issued.

This is the final week to make advance payments for yearbook purchases. We will be placing our order at the end of the week and will not be able to guarantee anyone not paid by the end of this week an opportunity to purchase. The cost of the yearbook is $40.00. You may make your purchase online through the Lifetouch website or pay in person at the school.

This past week, all freshmen students were given a Wilson Community College Application to carry home. We need the parents of our freshmen to review and make additions or corrections to that application. Completed applications should be returned to Ms. Mitchell this week. WAAT has a CFNC / FAFSA informational meeting Monday evening at 6:30. In this meeting, students and parents will learn about the resources available through College Foundation of North Carolina and also learn about the process required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid in order to be eligible to apply for financial aid. This is a great session for our seniors and super seniors.

Wednesday of this week, our 10th grade students will be participating in the Pre-ACT.

WAAT will continue to offer Learning Lab sessions each morning at 8:00 AM. This is for students that have had excessive absences in a course and are in danger of not receiving credit due to those absences. Learning Lab will allow students to make up time for some of the missed days. Students should speak to their teachers to determine the need for Learning Lab.

We are asking that parents utilize the car line area on the east side of the building when picking up and dropping off students at the beginning and end of the day. Please do not drop off and pick up at the front of the building.

The fall deadline for ordering a WAAT T-Shirt or Sweatshirt is Wednesday of this week. After October 4th, we will stop taking orders until January. The first day of school for students is Tuesday, August 1st. Classes will start at 9:30 and we will release from school at 2:30 for the first 2 weeks on M-Th and at 12:00 on Fridays.

We are fortunate this year that WAAT has been designated a Universal Free school, meaning all WAAT students will be able to receive school lunch at no cost. Although not required to receive the no-cost meals, families may still opt to complete a free and reduced lunch application. Approval of the application will also make families eligible for other fee waivers, including the district Technology fee and Driver Education fee, as well as some fees associated with taking tests such as the SAT. To complete the application, visit www.myschoolapps.com

The Google form for students to indicate their meal preferences for the upcoming week has been placed in the WAAT student classroom. Students should visit their Google Classroom and make selections as appropriate if they wish to receive a school lunch

WAAT has also scheduled a Freshman Orientation for our incoming 9th graders tomorrow Thursday, July 27th beginning at 6:00 in the evening. We will meet in the Gym at WAAT. We encourage all freshmen and their parents to attend this meeting. Freshmen will have the opportunity to pay their $30.00 Technology fee and pick up their device at the orientation.
