Parent Training Sessions

Wilson County Schools is hosting two parent workshops on Mon, April 27 focused on simple tools to help reduce problem behaviors in children and teenagers. Do you struggle to get your child to do homework? Feel like you’re repeating yourself? Or have a teen who seems moody and doesn’t communicate? If so, these workshops are for you.

The first training session titled Bridging the Gap Between You and Your Adolescent, is for parents of teens ages 13 and up. It will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. on April 27 at Jones Elementary. If uncommunicative, moody, argumentative and sometimes totally irrational describes your adolescent, then you are in good company! There is no doubt that the adolescent years present a challenge for both parents and children. Adolescents need strong and supportive parenting at the exact moment that they begin to push their parents away. If you find yourself feeling frustrated and confused as to why your son or daughter behaves a certain way and are not sure how to handle it, then this training is for you. This training presented by Cheri Vandermey Rubio, B.C.B.A., will provide some simple tools parents can immediately use to minimize their adolescent’s difficult behaviors and maintain control while avoiding power struggles.

The second session titled Behavior 101 is for parents of children ages 5 to 12 in grades K-6. It will be held from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. on April 27 at Jones Elementary. Do you struggle to get your child to do his/her homework? Do you feel like a broken record asking your child to do the same things over and over? Do you ever wonder why your child behaves a certain way? If so, Behavior 101: Parent Training is for you. This training presented by Cheri Vandermey Rubio, B.C.B.A., will provide simple tools you can immediately use that can decrease your child’s problem behaviors and increase your child’s compliance in the home.

The sessions were also offered in March.
