Parent Training Sessions

Wilson County Schools is hosting two parent trainings on Mon, March 30 focused on simple tools to help reduce problem behaviors in children and teenagers. Do you struggle to get your child to do homework? Feel like you’re repeating yourself? Or have a teen who seems moody and doesn’t communicate? If so, these training sessions are for you.

The first training session titled Behavior 101 is for parents of children ages 5 to 12. It will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. on March 30 at Wilson Academy of Applied Technology.

The second session titled Bridging the Gap Between You and Your Adolescent, is for parents of teens ages 13 and up. It will be held from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. on March 30 at Jones Elementary School.

Both sessions will be led by Board Certified Behavior Analyst Cheri Rubio and will provide practical strategies you can use right away at home. The sessions will be offered again in April and the times that they are offered will be flipped. More information about each session below.

BEHAVIOR 101: PARENT TRAINING 
All WCS Parents of Students Aged 5-12 Invited

Do you struggle to get your child to do his/her homework? Do you feel like a broken record asking your child to do the same things over and over? Do you ever wonder why your child behaves a certain way? If so, Behavior 101: Parent Training is for you.

This training presented by Cheri Vandermey Rubio, B.C.B.A., will provide simple tools you can immediately use that can decrease your child’s problem behaviors andincrease your child’s compliance in the home.

BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR ADOLESCENT: PRACTICAL STRATEGIES FOR PARENTS
All WCS Parents of Students Aged 13-18+ Invited

If uncommunicative, moody, argumentative and sometimes totally irrational describes your adolescent, then you are in good company! There is no doubt that the adolescent years present a challenge for both parents and children. Adolescents need strong and supportive parenting at the exact moment that they begin to push their parents away. If you find yourself feeling frustrated and confused as to why your son or daughter behaves a certain way and are not sure how to handle it, then this training is for you.

This training presented by Cheri Vandermey Rubio, B.C.B.A., will provide some simple tools parents can immediately use to minimize their adolescent’s difficult behaviors and maintain control while avoiding power struggles.
