House System
Shout Out! to Speight Middle for its unique house system that promotes teamwork and positive behavior among students. At the beginning of the year, students are assigned to four different houses or teams by reaching into a sorting box and drawing out the name of one of the houses. The idea mirrors the house system found in the Harry Potter book series. Each house is based on one of Speight’s core values and is named after a big cat to align with the school’s Cougar mascot. The Pumas are known for innovation, the Jaguars for compassion, the Mountain Lions for commitment and the Panthers for respect. Each house also has a color. Throughout the year, students receive points for their houses by making good choices. During their Red Ribbon Celebration a few weeks ago, the houses competed in various activities for additional points, and the Panthers won.
