Day of the Dead
Shout Out! to WCS Teacher of the Year / Fike High Spanish Teacher Carrie Maravi for sharing her favorite tradition, the Day of the Dead, with students in her Spanish classes. The Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday celebrated Oct. 31-Nov. 2 where families honor their deceased loved ones. Ms. Maravi shared, "Today is a special day. Every year, I look forward to teaching my students about the Day of the Dead. I love when my students feel proud of their projects, and it gives me a different perspective of them when I hear them share such personal and meaningful stories about their loved ones. I participated this year and made an ofrenda for my Grandma Katie. It’s my favorite tradition." Ms. Maravi also painted her face as a sugar skull to represent and celebrate the deceased.
