The Wilson County Board of Education meets Mon., Dec. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at Central Office for its rescheduled regular monthly meeting.

Wilson County Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay for students on Tues., Dec. 9 to allow for travel when it is light outside in case of ice on the roads.

Wilson County Schools will be closed for students and staff on Mon., Dec. 8 because of the threat of inclement weather and the potential for it to worsen throughout the day.

Because of the threat of inclement weather, there are changes to the schedule for students and staff on Fri., Dec. 5. 

Wilson County Schools (WCS) would like to thank everyone who played a role in helping the district secure $42 million in grant funds to construct a new elementary school for students at Wells Elementary and Hearne Elementary. 

Wilson County Schools is in the process of developing the 2026-2027 Traditional Instructional Calendar. We would like input from staff and families prior to sharing the proposed calendar with the Wilson County Board of Education for approval.

Sept. 23, is the 30th day of school for traditional students who began the school year on Aug. 25. Effective Sept. 24, students in Kindergarten, 7th grade, 12th grade, and those attending a North Carolina public school for the first time will NOT be allowed to attend school if they have not submitted an updated immunization record and/or a completed health assessment.

Wilson County Schools experienced increases in overall proficiency and growth for the 2024-2025 school year and is now ranked 34th out of 115 districts in overall proficiency compared to 37th in the state last school year. This is the highest state ranking the district has ever achieved! Wilson County Schools is only 2.5% away from being one of the top 20 performing districts in the state.

Wilson County Schools students in grades 3-12 will be taking several surveys during the 2025-2026 school year. Families have the option to opt out your student from taking the surveys. 

North Carolina law now requires all public schools to show a video to students in grades 6-12 within the first five days of the school year regarding inappropriate behavior and adult sexual misconduct in school settings. Families have the right to complete an opt out form if you do not want your student to watch the video.

As the new school year approaches, please be aware of North Carolina’s immunization and health assessment requirements for certain students. If records are not submitted by the 30-day deadline, students will NOT be allowed to attend school until documentation is received, per state law.

Registration is now open for the 2025 Summer Accelerator Program where students entering grades 6-9 next school year are invited to participate in mini-courses based on their interests.

Wilson County Schools provides students with the opportunity to seek reassignment to a school based on criteria established by the Board of Education. We are excited to welcome your kindergartner to Wilson County Schools! Parents with children who will be 5 years old on or before Aug. 31, 2025, should register their child during districtwide Kindergarten Registration in March or anytime prior to the first day of school August 25, 2025. Registration should be completed online if possible. 

The online application process is now open for students in grades 5-11 who are interested in attending the Wilson Academy of Virtual Education (or WAVE) for the 2025-2026 school year. To learn more, attend the Virtual Information Meeting on March 5 at 6 p.m.

It's time to begin the selection process for the 2025-2026 Wilson County Schools Principal of the Year. The Principal of the Year will be selected this spring, and the winner will be announced at the end of the 2024-2025 school year. Anyone in the community can make a nomination.

Students in grades 3-12 will take the Panorama Survey beginning the week of Feb. 24. Families have the option to opt-out your student from taking the survey by completing an online form prior to Feb. 14.
